To compress JPEG images online for free, you can check out JPEGmini, Kraken, PunyPng and some others as mentioned before.

Today, our reader TooSober recommended another one — CompressJPG, which is not only available for you to compress JPEG images, but also BMP and PNG ones, with the following 3 advantages:

Compress Images Online For Free With CompressJPG

1. You can choose the compression ratio

As default, the compression ratio is 80, which you can change from 50 to 100, the lower the ratio is, the smaller size the compressed image will be, but with worse quality.

No matter what ratio you choose, you can compare the original image with the result one side by side before compression.

2. You can also compress BMP and PNG files

When uploading BMP and/or PNG files, they will be converted to JPEG images automatically before compression.

3. You can upload up to 20 images at a time

Like Kraken and PunyPng, CompressJPG is available for you to upload multiple (up to 20) images at a time.

Besides the above 3 advantages, CompressJPG also has some shortcomings, such as that you have to compress the uploaded images one by one, and to download the compressed images one by one. What is more, there will be "_mini" added into the result images. For example, if the original file name were "freenuts.bmp", "freenuts.PNG" or "freenuts.JPG", then the compressed image name would be "freenuts_mini.jpg".

To use the CompressJPG service, you can upload one or multiple JPG, BMP and/or PNG images by selecting or dragging from your computer disk, and click on the "UPLOAD QUEUE" button to upload them. After that, clicking on any of the uploaded images, you can preview the compressed result, and change the compression ration if you like, then you can click on the "COMPRESS" button to download the result image.

So, the best advantage of CompressJPG is that you can change the compression ratio, but which is also the worst shortcoming, since most people don't like to do that, and what they like is to compress their images as more, better and fast as possible.
